  • What is Azithromycin?
Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections causing travelers' diarrhea. It is particularly effective in regions like South Asia and Southeast Asia, where resistance to other antibiotics is common. Azithromycin works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, thereby reducing symptoms and duration of diarrhea.

    How does Azithromycin work?
Azithromycin targets and kills bacteria causing travelers' diarrhea by preventing them from producing proteins necessary for their survival. It is usually taken once daily for three days, starting as soon as symptoms appear, to quickly reduce symptoms and duration.

    Additional Information

Onset of Action: Begins working within a few hours of the first dose.
Duration of Effect: Typically provides relief within 1-2 days of starting treatment.

    Off-Label Use Notice

Some medications, such as this, are prescribed for conditions outside of their license, known as 'off-label' use. This common practice ensures that medications can safely benefit as many patients as possible, based on updated information and evidence since the product first became available.
