  • What is Fluconazole?

Fluconazole is suitable for children and adults over the age of 16 years. The active ingredient in these capsules is fluconazole, which is an anti-fungal medicine that is used to kill the fungus that is responsible for causing thrush.

After just a single dose the infection will start to clear, stopping that dreadful itch and normalising any discharge. Soothing and calming the skin around the vaginal or penis so you can get on with your day.

Fluconazole 150mg capsules are a cheaper generic version of Canesten Oral Capsule.

    Fluconazole for thrush

We provide fluconazole as a treatment for thrush that affects the vagina or penis.

    Symptoms of thrush may include:

    • Itching, soreness or irritation around the vagina and penis
    • Pain or stinging when urinating or during sex
    • Redness or inflammation around the entrance to the vagina or head of the penis
    • Cottage cheese-like vaginal discharge or under the foreskin

It is an effective treatment for both men and women and only requires you to take a single capsule to clear the infection.

If you are unsure whether you are suffering from thrush you must see a doctor or attend a sexual health clinic to make sure you are receiving the correct treatment for your symptoms.

    How does Fluconazole work?

Fluconazole works to kill fungal infections by creating holes in the membrane of their cells making it impossible for them to reproduce and die. This process happens quickly which means this product is very effective at clearing symptoms associated with thrush.

How long does Fluconazole take to work?

When taking Fluconazole by mouth it gets to work as soon as it is swallowed. Most people will notice they feel more comfortable within a couple of days. You should be clear of vaginal or penile thrush symptoms within 7 days of taking this medicine.

If you continue to have symptoms of thrush 7 days after taking your dose of Fluconazole you should speak to a pharmacist or doctor for further treatment advice.
